Frequently asked questions
Below are several frequently asked questions regarding LAN Bridger.
Why does LAN Bridger connect to services.lanbridger.com?
LAN Bridger attempts to connect to services.lanbridger.com on four occasions:
1) When LAN Bridger starts, it asks services.lanbridger.com for the latest version information in order to notify you of available updates
2) When you host a network, it asks services.lanbridger.com to determine your IP address in order to enable you to share your network with friends and coworkers.
3) When you host a network, it asks services.lanbridger.com to verify your network is accessible to others. It does this by running a simple port check.
4) When you host a network, it syncs your network with services.lanbridger.com. Syncing makes it simple to share your network with others, should you choose to do so.
In each of these interactions with services.lanbridger.com, we do keep a minimal set of logs for use in tracking down and fixing problems. These logs are never shared.
Does LAN Bridger have any dependencies?
LAN Bridger depends on a few libraries, most of which are bundled with the application. However, one large dependency that LAN Bridger has is not bundled: .net 3.5. LAN Bridger uses .net 3.5 for its user interface. When you install LAN Bridger, it will check if you have .net 3.5 already installed—if you don't, it will attempt to download and install it.
The download size varies between 19MB and 60MB, depending on whether or not you already have .net 2.0 or .net 3.0 already installed. Once you install .net 3.5, LAN Bridger will not require you install it again.
LAN Bridger will not require a newer version of .net beyond .net 3.5 in the foreseeable future.
Why does the LAN Bridger installer attempt to download an MSI?
The installer executable you download from the download page is actually a network installer. Once it determines whether or not you meet the requirements to run LAN Bridger, it downloads an MSI that contains the actual application and its various components.
